Moon Township Garden Club Nurtures Food Security and Community Bonds

On May 21^st Joan Iacono and Christy Klug of the Moon Township Garden Club presented Coraopolis Community Development (CCD) Executive Director, Randon Willard, with a donation for their community garden in downtown Coraopolis. About 20 volunteers plant and maintain vegetables in the garden. The garden produces 1,500-2,000 pounds of produce including tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, broccoli, peppers, lettuce, onions and more.

The volunteers get first pick of the harvest; the rest is donated to the food pantry managed by CCD. The food pantry provides 450 units of food monthly to needy families.

Coraopolis Community Development is a grassroots organization with the goals of eradicating food insecurity, fostering connections and strengthening community bonds. CCD partners with Cornell schools and Mooncrest to provide 175 children per week with weekend food through their Snack Pack Program.
