fleur de lune Garden

a place for plants, people and pollinators alike

The Fleur De Lune (FDL) garden, located in the historic landscape of Robin Hill Park, is a community greenspace where plants, people and pollinators thrive. The 10,000 square foot garden, nestled within mature trees on a 125-year-old estate of 54 acres that was bequeathed to Moon Township by Mrs. Francis Nimick to be used as a permanent green space for the community and a refuge for wildlife. The Fleur de Lune was lovingly created through an all-volunteer effort on the site of a previous clay tennis court from a master plan developed in 2024. Today, the garden continues to evolve. The growth and progress of the plant collection and design have become a catalyst for community involvement as it celebrates garden history, wildlife-supporting plantings and sustainable landscaping practices while its semi-formal outline and wide sprawling paths align well with the historically significant landscape. The exuberant multi-season garden, which provides successional blooms and ever-changing visual interest, is free and open to the public. Located at the entry to the Greater Pittsburgh Trail System, visitors can find respite on shaded benches among hundreds of types of perennials, shrubs, trees and an heirloom garden of old-fashioned favorites and fragrant herbs. Many native species intermix in the plantings, which all provide wildlife habitat for native bees, butterflies and birds. The garden is funded through donations from individuals and occasional grants and is entirely maintained by volunteers who garden together to create and preserve a place not only of beauty, but of pride, camaraderie and community. We encourage you to come to the garden and enjoy nature as it blooms, buzzes, flutters and tweets all around you. And please say hello to our club members—we’d love to meet you in the Fleur de Lune!
